Known for his gripping documentaries that include Cartel Land and City of Ghosts, Matthew Heineman is one of today's most prolific documentary filmmakers. He has been nominated for an Academy Award® and is a nine-time Emmy Award-winner and two-time DGA Award winner.
Heineman has had films at the Sundance Film Festival five times since 2012 and this year, he has been in the spotlight for his latest award-winning film, American Symphony, capturing a year in the life of Academy Award and Grammy Award-winning artist, Jon Batiste, and his wife, writer Suleika Jaouad, while she battles leukemia. The film has earned an Academy Award® nomination for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, as well as a BAFTA and PGA nomination, and has won two Critics' Choice Awards.
