The feature directorial debut of Alejandro González Iñárritu—winner of back-to-back Oscars for directing Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014) and The Revenant (2015)—tells three unsettling tales, linked by a car accident, that involve dog fighting, an injured model, and a hired killer. For this International Feature Film nominee, Iñárritu worked with several key collaborators he would reunite with for later films, including actor Gael García Bernal, screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga, composer Gustavo Santaolalla, and four-time Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, whose dramatic yet realistic visuals contribute a key part of the film’s impact.
